Ferring Retirement Club

The past, the present and the future

Ferring Retirement Club in West Sussex

The Club was founded by Lilian Holdsworth in October 1980 and incorporated as a charity in 1994. Whilst membership of the club is open to anyone, the charity’s objects, as stated in its Constitution, are ‘the relief of the elderly in any manner deemed charitable within Ferring and the surrounding area’.

Of course, society has changed over the decades and the Club has had to adapt accordingly. In the early days, the lunches provided were very popular and some members would even come along to spend a whole day chatting and socialising. However, changes came as older people began to lead more active lives with a range of interests and hobbies, wider opportunities for socialising, and technological advances that enabled them to remain connected with family and friends.

The current membership stands at over 250. Members enjoy the wide range of activities offered every week, which are very popular and, as a consequence, waiting lists are in place for some groups.

The club is governed and managed by a committee of formally appointed trustees, under the chairmanship of  Susan Pratt The trustees are constantly striving to enhance the facilities and activities for members. All are volunteers who give readily of their time and without whom the club could not function.
